Leicester City are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon youngster, Nuno Mendes, who has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, according to reports.
The 18-year-old has performed really well for Sporting Lisbon of late. This has made him one of the highest-rated young players in Portugal at the moment.
He made nine senior appearances for them last season, and he has already broken into Portugal’s U21 side.
Mendes has started in all Sporting Lisbon’s Primeira Liga outings this season. The Portuguese side currently sit top of the league with six wins and one draw.
The midfielder also made two appearances in this season’s UEFA Europea League Qualifying stages. Sporting lost 4-1 to LASK Linz in the final qualifying round to miss out on a place in the group stages.
It was reported back in September that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were interested in the youngster. But that move did not come to fruition, as it now appears like Leicester are attempting to beat the Gunners to the signing.
CM Sport have reported that Brendan Rodgers side are keen on the midfielder. The player currently has a release clause in his contract of £40m.
The Foxes will be keen to get the deal over the line soon. Sporting are hoping to agree on a new contract for Mendes, which will see his release clause increase to around £70m.
