Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are currently a team lacking in “form and confidence”.

Arteta took over as Arsenal boss in December 2019. The club enjoyed a positive upturn in form in the remaining months of the season.

The Gunners rose up the table and their season was highlighted by them winning the FA Cup. They picked up impressive victories over Chelsea and Man City en route to winning the trophy for a record fourteenth time.

But this season has been a completely different story. The Gunners are without a win in seven in the Premier League. This poor run has included five defeats and two draws.

Arsenal are 15th in the Premier League after picking up just four league wins from their 14 outings so far.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Redknapp claimed that last season’s FA Cup triumph has helped to keep Arteta’s job intact:

“[He is under an] enormous amount [of pressure] because this is a results-driven business and the results haven’t been good enough.

“What’s saved him a bit is the money he has in the bank because he won the FA Cup, they’ve been incredible in cup competitions but right now they’re a team that’s lacking form.

“When I think about Arsenal over the years, it’s a team that had so much style going forward, but this team is lacking so much confidence; there’s a lot of talk about dressing room unrest which doesn’t help when people are talking from outside.

“He needs to quieten everyone down with some results. I do fear for him, because this job is a difficult one if you have 1000 games, let alone being in the job for two minutes.”

Man City netted three goals in the second half to earn their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals…

Another Arsenal game, another disappointment. It’s a grim business in north London right now.

They’ve done studies, you know. Against Everton, Arsenal win 60% of the time, every time.

Neville reckons it has become a “real struggle” for the Arsenal players to produce under Arteta.

Mikel Arteta has warned Arsenal supporters not to heap pressure on fit-again forward Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners are currently in the middle of a seven-match winless run under Arteta…

Arsenal are right to make contingency plans because, as this lot demonstrate, you’re never too big to go down…

And you thought Garth Crooks forgetting who played for Liverpool against Tottenham was his silliest take…

Ancelotti, Bruce and Arteta all need success in the Carabao Cup and it’s certainly a biggie for Stoke’s keeper…
