Melbourne commuters face significant delays after a police operation at Flinders Street Station shut down all rush hour subway trains

Customers in the network were asked to look for alternative means of transport as the officers evacuated four platforms at the train station at around 5:00 p.m. in order to carry out “checks”

The train lines were suspended for about an hour which led to commuter chaos on the day many workers in Melbourne had returned to the city offices

Images posted online showed heavily armed police officers entering the station, which has since been declared safe

Metro Trains warned that despite explaining the incident, there will still be “significant delays” on all services

“There will be major delays in recovering from an earlier Victoria Police request,” the company said in a tweet

It is because Melbourne has just lifted restrictions to allow jobs of 75 percent capacity to return
