Two other federal MPs – a liberal and a worker – announced that they were aware of historical rape allegations against a cabinet minister, which became public last Friday

Labor MP Daniel Mulino told ABC that he was contacted in December 2019 by the alleged victim who was Dr Mulino’s girlfriend

“She made me understand that she was determined to file a formal complaint and I assisted her with that decision,” he said

“I made sure that the complainant received adequate assistance I am very saddened by my friend’s death I know this was a devastating time for the woman’s family and close friends. My thoughts are with them”

Dr Mulino said he had notified the Australian Federal Police (AFP), NSW Police and South Australian Police that he was ready to assist with an investigation

Labor Senator Penny Wong and former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull were also contacted by the woman in late 2019

Neither of them spoke to the police at this point, as the alleged victim made it clear that she was already speaking to the police

The woman joined the New South Wales Police Department in 2020, but the investigation was suspended when she turned up on Aug. June 2020 took his life The day before, she had informed the police that they no longer wanted to continue the investigation

A 31-page dossier setting out the allegation was mailed to the offices of the Prime Minister, Green Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, and Senator Wong on Wednesday

The ABC assumes that AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw also received the correspondence, but earlier in the day by email

The ABC has confirmed that Celia Hammond, a Liberal MP from WA, also received the 31-page dossier

This is presumably because she was asked by the Prime Minister to conduct an investigation into the Liberal Party’s workplace culture in order to then include it in a wider independent investigation

“I gave it to the Australian Federal Police on Wednesday afternoon and alerted the Prime Minister’s Office”

The Prime Minister’s Office did not respond to questions about when it informed the police of the letter, but a statement from a spokesman said that reporting to the police ensured that alleged crimes were properly investigated

“According to the instructions of the AFP commissioner, complaints or allegations of this type should be referred to anyone – whether parliamentarians or journalists – to the AFP,” said the spokesman

An allegation of rape against another federal politician was also sent to the AFP

Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson and Senator Hanson-Young confirmed that they both received an email from a woman claiming she was sexually assaulted by a man who is now a Federal Labor MP / p>

“When I referred this matter to AFP immediately, I received Commissioner Kershaw’s in his letter of Jan. Followed the procedures established in February 2021, “reads the statement

“The Australian Labor Party has seen media reports that Senator Henderson has received allegations of sexual assault and may have forwarded correspondence to the authorities,” the spokesman said
