Victorian MP Dan Tehan was expected to be added to the trading portfolio, with the Prime Minister opting against a more extensive shift of responsibilities
Following former Treasury Secretary Mathias Cormann’s resignation, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said stability and consistency are important in the uncertain era of the COVID-19 pandemic
Mr. Tehan takes on the role that includes tourism and investment at a time when trade tensions with China are causing significant pain for exporters
Mr. Tehan was a former official with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and comes from the Wannon regional Victorian electorate Mr Morrison said he has “a sense of the unique interests of regional and rural Australia in an open, rules-based environment”Trading Systems”
Elderly care is raised to the Cabinet, with Health Secretary Greg Hunt representing that portfolio at the table, but Junior Secretary Richard Colbeck, despite his often-criticized performance in that role, will continue to hold responsibility in this area
Mr Morrison also turned down the suggestion that it was a demotion for Senator Colbeck, saying the change is just about making sure the elderly care is represented in the cabinet
“It is important that we include care for the elderly in the cabinet as this issue is serious, size and scope of the reform program that needs to be implemented according to the report of the royal commission,” he said
“I am preparing for this by making sure that the elderly care portfolio is kept at the highest possible level”
Despite rumors of major changes, there have been no changes in Defense, Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Treasury, Finance, and Employment and Skills
There were no changes among the national members of the Cabinet, which remains at 22 members
Mr Morrison said that only modest changes were needed as his team of ministers were doing an “excellent job”
Simon Birmingham had already received the financial portfolio after Senator Cormann’s resignation and had to cede the trade elsewhere
Alan Tudge will take over the education portfolio from Mr. Tehan and become Minister for Education and Youth
When asked why Mr. Tudge got promoted from the ABC’s Four Corners program despite the revelations that he had an affair with his co-worker in recent years, Mr. Morrison said those issues were in the past
“Alan’s decisions in his own life for which he has taken full personal responsibility and no one paid a higher price for these things than his family and those who affected them and himself,” said Morrison / p>

“Zed has had a great experience in Parliament, having served in a number of deputy ministerial roles,” said Morrison
“He will also play a key role in ensuring we introduce the vaccine into our Pacific family in the New Year
“As an ACT Senator, he is also very well positioned for all embassies and missions that are here in the ACT, so that he can work well with these development partners in these roles”

Queensland Senator Amanda Stoker has been promoted to Assistant Secretary of the Attorney General and West Australian MP Andrew Hastie has been promoted to Assistant Secretary of Defense
