It’s a fight we’ve never seen The tragically hip hip competes against Mill Street Brewery with the sentence: “On the hundredth meridian”

100 Meridian beer has nothing to do with us We wanted you to know that we are currently suing Mill Street Brewery for their 100th Meridian Amber Lagers Mill Street is a subsidiary of Labatt owned by the great Belgian multinational brewer AB InBev We wanted to make sure you heard from us first We all know “At The Hundredth Meridian” was Gord Downie’s idea not Mill Street

Many of you probably have the impression that with the 100 Mill Street Meridian Beer – We Are Not We knew there was some confusion out there, but we didn’t know how much it turns out that Mill Street Brewery is our band name, ours Albums and even Gord Downie’s picture on her social media related to her 100th birthday Meridian Beer We weren’t glad you, our fans, made us believe that by purchasing the 100th Meridianbiers from Mill St
You know, we’ve only ever cared about our fans, that’s why we make sure that everything we release, whether it’s music, goods or drinks, is approved by us and made for you Mill Street Meridian Beer is neither We tried for months to clear it up with Mill Street but were unsuccessful They didn’t take us seriously and were frankly disrespectful We have been around for a long time and have always been able to sort things out without complaint Unfortunately not this time We took this step to remove confusion once and for all. You need to know that The Tragically Hip can always be relied on

Although I love the hip, I’m not a huge fan of this suit. If the hundredth Meridian had been Gord Downie’s idea, surely he would have invented the town of Bobcaygeon too, right? (Sarcasm intended)

Even so, there are some advantages to the lawsuit – since Mill Street actually used hip photos and albums to promote their beer, example below:

How will that play out? I often wonder if Gord would have minded if he had been with us today
