Environmental activist Greta Thunberg says she stopped buying new clothes and has no grudge against people who fly or choose to have children

In an interview on the occasion of her 18th On her birthday, the often lively Swedish activist offered a relaxed look when asked about celebrities who trumpet their environmental awareness and still contribute to CO2 emissions with passenger planes

“I don’t care,” Ms. Thunberg, who normally travels overseas by boat, told The Sunday Times magazine

“I don’t tell anyone what to do, but there is a risk in talking about these things and not practicing while you are preaching Then you get criticized for it and what you say wins”not to be taken seriously”

My deepest thanks to everyone struggling to awaken people to the climate and environmental crisis, the reason we are still in this chaos is because we are numerically among those who tell us to fall asleep again saying adequate action will be taken if it doesn’t, let’s change that in 2021! When asked about activists who say having children is irresponsible at a time when the planet is under pressure, Ms. Thunberg said she did not consider it selfish to have children, adding, it is “not the people who are the problem, but our behavior”

She said her ideal birthday present would be for people to do more to help the planet – although a physical gift of new headlights for her bike would be welcome too

But unlike many teenagers, wanting new clothes is not on their list due to the environmental impact of apparel production and demand

“I don’t need new clothes,” she says, “I know people who have clothes, so I would ask them if I could borrow them or if they had something they no longer need. In the worst case, I might buy used ”

Ms. Thunberg also admitted that she was guilty of public pressure – including death threats – on her family during her three years. She didn’t care what people said about her online, but “if it is the people affects around you, it becomes something else “
