Environmental activist says she has stopped buying new clothes but will not criticize those who fly or have children

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg says she stopped buying new clothes and has no grudge against people who fly

In an interview on the occasion of her 18th On her birthday, the Swedish activist offered a relaxed perspective when she was asked about celebrities who trumpet their environmental awareness and still contribute to CO2 emissions with passenger planes

However, she said such numbers could be accused of hypocrisy “I don’t care,” Thunberg, who normally travels overseas by boat, told Sunday Times magazine

“I don’t tell anyone what to do,” she said, “but the risk is if you talk about these things and don’t practice while you are preaching, then you will be criticized for and for what you are saying not taken seriously ”

When asked about activists who say having children is irresponsible at a time when the planet is under pressure, Thunberg said she doesn’t consider it selfish to have children and added it be “not the people who are the problem, it is our behavior”

She said her ideal birthday present would be for people to do more to help the planet – although a physical gift of new headlights for her bike would be welcome too

But unlike many teenagers, new garments are not on their birthday lists

due to the environmental impact of clothing production and demand

“I don’t need new clothes,” she says, “I know people who have clothes, so I would ask them if I could borrow them or if they had something they no longer need. In the worst case, I might buy used ”

Thunberg also said she felt guilty about the pressures on her family – including death threats – from her three years in public. She said she didn’t care what people said about her online, but “if it is Concerning people around you, it becomes something else “
