Tributes to the double 125cc world champion and experienced team boss Fausto Gresini flooded out of the MotoGP paddock after his death on Tuesday

Gresini fell ill with COVID-19 shortly before Christmas and on 27 Admitted to hospital in Imola on December 31st before being transferred to a specialized COVID care unit in Bologna

On Tuesday, the Gresini team announced that the Italian had lost his two-month battle against COVID at the age of 60

Avintia MotoGP rider Enea Bastianini rode with Gresini in the first three years of his Grand Prix career from 2014 to 2016 and won two races

In a short post on social media, the Italian said that Gresini was “like a father” to him

“In my first three years in the world championship you were like a father, you made me grow a lot as a driver and as a person

Honda World Superbike rider Alvaro Bautista, who rode for Gresini in MotoGP for five years from 2012 to 2016, wrote: “My condolences go out to [his] family and friends

“Thank you for doing so much with motorcycling. Say hello to everyone who is no longer with us

The Tech3 team says the “paddock owes him a lot” for their efforts to make MotoGP the way it is today

“This is how we feel now. We can’t believe we lost Fausto, an incredible partner, an incredible fighter, one of our great players

“We’ve had so many hard and good moments together that we’ve worked hard to get MotoGP to where it is now Our paddock owes him a lot

Pramacs Jorge Martin, who won Gresini’s last world title in Moto3 in 2018, added: “Yesterday the worst was waiting for me and today it is here

“Fausto gave me the opportunity to have a competitive bike and demonstrate things when nobody wanted me

“He taught me the passion for the motorcycle and how human a team owner can be. Thank you Fausto”
