The Royals had a horror for 12 months and it doesn’t seem much better by 2021. Kate has been faced with a huge task that could make or break the monarchy

Duchess Katherine has been accused of taking inspiration from Meghan Markle to create her glamorous new 2020 look

Cinderella had it easy Sure, she had to deal with a wicked stepmother and deal with all the talking mice (and don’t break those wildly inconvenient glass slippers), but at the end of the day when she caught the Prince it was hers Job Done All that was left for her to do was enjoy it happily and hang out with some birds singing

Too bad then Kate Duchess from Cambridge, the most famous waiting princess in the world. She may live in a real palace and regularly have the opportunity to wear tiaras, but there is no resemblance to her fairytale counterpart

Next year it will be a decade since she walked down the aisle of Westminster Abbey and traded civil life for life as a royal card once and for all, when she had a title for her name, she really found out that a future princess doesn’t just accept flowers from kinking children and chat benevolently with Union Jack waving retirees

Every year since then, she has increased her official workload, adding charities, patronages, and projects to her royal résumé

With her ten-year wedding anniversary just around the corner and as Kate begins her second decade as a true HRH, she faces the biggest and most daunting challenge of her career to date with nothing less than the future of the monarchy that rests on her very narrow, zara-clad shoulders

When biographers and scholars get to write about this era in royal history, they will all agree if they consider the last 12 months to be one of the most damaging and disastrous periods in the annals of the House of Windsor

In fact, in less than two years, the Queen and Company have moved from post-wedding glitz and global monarchy adoration through the union of Harry and Mrs. Meghan Duchess of Sussex into the world’s destination of Anger and Sharpness / p>

Last November, Prince Andrew and his connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to a disastrous, humiliating head when interviewed by the BBC In just under an hour, the Duke of York managed to prove himself callous, pompous and witty by offering a suburban pizza chain; and the bizarre claim he doesn’t sweat somehow disproved claims that he had sex with a teenage victim of Epstein

(The King has vigorously and repeatedly denied allegations made by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who claims she was trafficked by Epstein, that she had sex with him three times)

A spate of public anger over his explanations for his behavior and friendship with Epstein resulted in Andrew being unceremoniously expelled from public life

It must have been a painful moment for the Queen, who is often reported to see Andrew as her favorite child, but as CEO of the Royal Family, it was an absolute Hindenburg-sized disaster, so to speak

Less than eight weeks after that particular “bomb” went off in the palace, Harry and Meghan Duke and the Duchess of Sussex detonated another one that allegedly blinded the Queen and Prince Charles by telling the world they had enough and no longer wanted to be full-time members of the royal family (and no less via Instagram)

In the days and weeks that followed, as anger, injury, and frustration within the family surfaced in public and in the press, the Windsors once again became something of a painful soap opera (well, they say the ’90s are back in vogue are …)

When Harry and Meghan showed up for their final series of official engagements in London in early March, the situation seemed positively flammable

The sour faces of the Cambridges and Sussexes at Westminster Abbey that day will go down in legend

When Harry and Meghan walked out the door for good, they robbed the palace of its best chance of making the monarchy not only palatable but relevant to younger generations, an Everest-like accomplishment, to be honest, it’s not that princess Anne’s artisan dedication to saving the UK lighthouses is going to really impress anyone, aside from the tea towel and spoon commemorative set

After all of this, as 2020 really took off, House of Windsor needed a series of pretty photo ops that required the hat to wash away the bad taste in the public’s mouths

COVID had other ideas with the pandemic that raises a far bigger existential question: Without Ascot and Trooping the Color to entertain the masses, what is the point of a monarchy in the 21st century Century?

During the greatest global crisis since World War II, the Windsors were outsourced to their estates, where they did their best to use the power of technology to keep the spirits up

But that doesn’t come close to what they so badly needed for 2020 There were many lovely public events, outings that brought home the theme of family unity and a nice dash of pomp and ceremony. The counties’ chests swell with monarchical pride

Finally, in November, the PR bomb that the Palace had long known exploded in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace exploded: The fourth season of The Crown

As the series reached the traumatic and miserable years of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Charles’ marriage, the royal family had to know that they would likely face an attempt on television

The reality was far more brutal when Charles was portrayed as a cruel narcissist and the alleged seclusion and coldness of the queen was almost parodied

The pavement has been torn from the barely healed wounds of marriage in Wales, and suddenly the image of the Royal Family, Her Majesty in particular, has been spectacularly revived as a heartless, undeveloped bunch on a global scale

For decades they had assumed the status of benevolently accepted, entertaining public figures With ten episodes, showrunner Peter Morgan and his team succeeded in making the House of Windsor the villain again, at least in the eyes of many people

Taken together, both Harry and Meghan’s exit and The Crown have breathed new life into the perception of the royal family as a callous, sometimes ruthless institution that is essential for survival, regardless of the personal cost

Waiting for the royal family at the beginning of the new year is a gigantic PR project: the fight to reclaim the hearts and minds of the volatile masses

In this breach, Kate will most likely have to step the royal ship and somehow correct it

Sure, there are still eight core members of the royal family on the books (the Queen, Duchess of Cornwall, Cornilla, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Princess Anne and the Cambridges), but it’s not like that their reliable faces, which will launch a thousand ships with good press and strengthen the public royal mood

Given the average age of HRHs still on duty under 68 years of age, the task of presenting the world with a youthful and lively face rests entirely with the Cambridges. And of the two, let’s be honest: William could one day be king but his bald pie and eager smile don’t soften the coldest Republican heart. It’s Kate

It is Kate, whose smiles and beautiful hats and adorable children are the most powerful and powerful weapon the palace has in its limited arsenal to try to repair the enormous reputational damage they have sustained over the past year

And it is Kate’s hard work and dedication that will begin the slow process of rebuilding reputation for the institution of the monarchy. It is a great responsibility to bear with her cemented smile as she raises three young children

Over the years there have been those who have written off the Duchess as a fragrant, slightly useless addition to the Windsors. Cecil Beaton famously called the Queen Mother “a marshmallow made on a welder,” and it’s hard to find a more accurate one Find description of Kate

In 2021, Kate will come under pressure to deliver, on an unprecedented scale, but I think the woman knows exactly what she’s doing without the need for a glass shoe
