The earthquake caused small tsunami waves on Norfolk Island and triggered brief sea warnings for Lord Howe Island, 700 km off the coast of New South Wales

At around 2 a.m., the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that Norfolk Island had been hit by the tsunami, hitting the beaches with unusual and rough waves for several hours, which appear to have done no significant damage
