NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Gov Andrew Cuomo has requested an independent review after another former aide made sexual harassment allegations

According to the New York Times, a second woman came forward claiming the governor sexually molested her as an executive assistant

The article states that 25-year-old Charlotte Bennett claims Cuomo asked her late last spring “numerous questions about her personal life, including whether she believed age makes a difference in romantic relationships and.” that he was open to relationships with women in their twenties – comments she interpreted as clear overtures to a sexual relationship ”

Bennett told The Times that she spoke with Cuomo’s chief of staff and Judith Mogul, the governor’s special adviser, about the interaction. She was then transferred to a position as health policy adviser and said she did not insist on an investigation

Cuomo’s office says that while Bennett was reviewing the Special Envoy’s investigation, it was briefed on the facts, which included no entitlement to physical contact or inappropriate sexual contact

“Ms. Bennett was a hardworking and valued member of our team during COVID. She has every right to be heard

“When she came to me and learned about being a sexual assault survivor and how it shaped her and her ongoing efforts to create an organization that would empower her voice to help other survivors, I tried to get her To support and help MS Bennett’s first impression was correct: I tried to mentor her, I never made any progress on Ms. Bennett, nor did I intend to act in an inappropriate way. The last thing I ever wanted was to make her feel one of the things that are being reported

“This situation cannot and should not be resolved in the press I believe the best way to get to the truth is a full and thorough outside scrutiny, and I direct all government officials to comply with these efforts. I ask all New Yorkers to await the results of the scrutiny so that they know the facts, before judging I will not comment further until review is complete ”

This follows allegations made by former top aide Lindsey Boylan, who claims the governor created a culture “in which sexual harassment and bullying are so widespread that it is not only tolerated but expected”

As Cory James reports from CBS2, she also claims Cuomo kissed her and asked her to play strip poker in 2017, which the governor denied

Boylan first made allegations of sexual harassment in December At the time, personal records emerged showing that Boylan resigned from her state post after facing harassment of several female employees who worked for her
Meanwhile, Beth Garvey, special adviser and senior advisor to the governor, says former federal judge Barbara Jones will lead the review, saying, “There is no limit to the scope of Judge Jones review”

However, some say that an independent person needs to designate the person who will lead the review

Republican Senate Chairman Rob Orr added, “The review proposed by someone chosen by the governor himself is an outrageous, totally unacceptable idea. We need a truly independent investigation, which is why I am continuing my colleagues’ demands for an attorney general appointed special prosecutor support ”
