In the 31 years since its release, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation has earned its holiday classic accolade.Of course, a lot has happened in those three decades, including the cast that helped make the comedy so memorable in the first place

Before we get into the cast though, let’s talk about the title Yes, it’s true, there’s no real vacation in the movie It’s a holdover from the two previous films in the franchise, National Lampoon’s Vacation (another classic) and National Lampoon’s European Vacation (not so much) Like these films, Christmas Vacation tells the story of the all-American family, the Griswolds

As Clark Griswold, Chase found one of his most memorable characters in the movie – an unfortunate, clumsy, but well-meaning father who many viewers found very relatable.Since the Christmas break in the 1990s, Chase starred in a number of mostly memorable films such as Memoirs of a Invisible Man and Cops & Robbersons He also repeated Clark in Vegas Vacation in 1997, which did not find the success of the previous films

The former Saturday Night Live star’s best-known role after the Christmas break was likely a racist, sexist tycoon in the classic TV cult community (His role was a little too mirrored of his off-screen personality, according to some, including Co -Star Donald Glover)

Chase also made a memorable appearance on Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) and a not-as-memorable one as (again) Clark Griswold in the poorly conceived 2015 edition of National Lampoon’s Vacation with Ed Helms entitled Vacationing His Last Appearance on Live Action movie was in The Very Excellent Mr Dundee, a sequel to Crocodile Dundee

Ellen Griswold was both a mother character and a sex symbol because of the D’Angelo cast. She has mostly supporting roles after the Vacation franchise, which includes notable parts in American History X and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, and she also had one Recurring role on HBO’s Entourage and appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Cougar Town on Off-Screen, she was in a relationship with Al Pacino from 1997 to 2003, with whom she had twins

An entire book could be written about Quaid’s life after playing Ellen’s cousin husband on Vacation, and that would just cover his real-world exploits. In short, he and his wife Evi were in a series of controversies that have led to widespread speculation about their mental health

They lived on the run – mostly in Canada – for several years due to unpaid hotel bills (among other things) while giving interviews and posting videos online claiming they were being hunted by a secret crime group, the Hollywood Star Whackers who kill celebrities

However, prior to Vacation, Quaid was a highly respected actor who starred in the 1970s dramas The Last Picture Show and Midnight Express. He played comedy for a period in films such as Kingpin after the Vacation, before becoming a standout at Brokeback Mountain in 2005 Supported role played

Unfortunately, the beginnings of his criminal mishaps soon followed with the canceled theater production Lone Star Love in 2007. Allegations of physical and verbal abuse during rehearsals for that show resulted in him being and forever banned from the Actors’ Equity Association Since then, life has gone through countless bizarre twists

Lewis actually played the third Audrey Griswold, after Dana Barron and Dana Hill from the first two films (producers felt having younger children was important to the Griswold story) It’s funny that now to think about, but Lewis was unknown at the time of the Christmas break

Just two years later, she gave an Oscar-nominated performance to Robert De Niro in Cape Fear, followed by a string of critical and commercial hits What Eats Gilbert Grape, Natural Born Killers, and From Dusk to Dawn, all of which followed during them couldn’t stand the hot phase of the 90s, since then she has faced the rock band Juliette and The Licks with modest success from time to time since 2003

Galecki took on the role of son Russ Griswold, and followed the steps of Anthony Michael Hall and Jason Lively. While he never made great strides on the big screen, Galecki was thanks to Roseanne in the 1990s and then as Dr Leonard Hofstadter on the hit The Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007 to 2019. He is currently featured in a recurring role on the Roseanne spin-off The Conners

Diane Ladd as Clark’s mother Although Ladd was arguably a bigger pre-vacation star thanks to a role in Roman Polanski’s 1974 film Chinatown and an Oscar-nominated role in Alice Doesn’t Live Here (also 1974), she was with Primary too Colors (1998) and successful 28 days (2000)

Doris Roberts as Ellen’s mother Although she had a long and successful career before the Christmas holidays, Roberts is best known for her run as matriarch for Everybody Loves Raymond from 1996-2005. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2016 at the age of 90

And who can forget Julia Louis-Dreyfus? She was fresh from a run on the poorly received Saturday Night Live cast of the 1980s when she landed the role of an obnoxious New Yorker over the Christmas break, and she hasn’t looked back since first a little show called Seinfeld, then The New Old Christine’s Adventures, and then her Emmy-winning portrayal of Selina Meyer on the HBO hit Veep, signed a multi-year deal with Apple TV in January 2020 to serve as the executive producer and star on new projects, most recently on the last night of the Democratic National Convention 2020 behind it
