The prolific television writer and producer received the Carol Burnett Award for the third time during Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony

During the Golden Globes 2021 on Sunday, 98 productive television writer and producer received the Carol Burnett Award

“Hello and good evening everyone, thank you for this wonderful night”, Lear began his speech. “It is getting rid of me to be introduced by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey”

Lear added that he “couldn’t feel more blessed,” praising the 87-year-old actress, after whom the award is named: “Nobody made me laugh harder”

Lear thanked several of his creative partners from his legendary career “Then of course there is my family: Lyn Davis Lear, five glorious daughters and my wonderful son, aged 26 to 74″my four fabulous grandchildren”

“Around 99 I can tell you that I never lived alone, never laughed alone and that has as much to do with being here today as anything else I know,” Lear said

“And again, thank you and bless you, Carol Burnett, for all that you have meant to me through joy, surprise, joy and laughter,” he added, “I am so glad we had this time together”

The honorary award is presented annually to a recipient who has made outstanding contributions to the television medium on or off the screen Annual Golden Globe Awards unveiled Past recipients include Ellen DeGeneres (2020) and her namesake Carol Burnett (2019)

Known for groundbreaking comedy series like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Good Times, Lear has long been a political activist and philanthropist as well – something he has incorporated into many of his shows

“His career spanned both the golden age and the streaming age, where his progressive approach to tackling controversial issues through humor resulted in a cultural shift that made it possible to reflect social and political issues on television,” said Sar in a statement, “His work has revolutionized the industry and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is honored to name him a 2021 Carol Burnett Award recipient”
