WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Brady Tkachuk tossed Mike Reilly’s shot from the top with 8.2 seconds to give the Ottawa Senators a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday
Ottawa improved to 3-12-1, beating Winnipeg for the first time in five games this season. The Jets beat the Senators 5-1 on Wednesday night in the opener of the two-game series
“There have been a lot of bad jumps going against us and hopefully to get a jump it’s the beginning of many,” said Tkachuk. “We will definitely learn from this and learn from all the positive aspects we have had
“We played a full 60 (minutes). You worked hard, but we stuck to the schedule. This is enormous for us and this is a great moment of maturity for our group. We are happy to be able to use this now ”
Evgenii Dadonov also scored for Ottawa and Marcus Hogberg scored 30 saves for his first win of the season
Hogberg started after Matt Murray (upper body injury) was injured on Thursday night
“It feels really good for me and the team to win here,” he said. “It was a good game for us, a full 60 minutes. I felt good in practice (Friday) and my feeling just went Played game and only focused one puck at a time We were really good in the (defensive) zone, where we blocked shots and stayed on track. I really enjoyed today’s game ”
Dadonov has scored three goals in his last four games
“We have waited a long time to win so I hope it will happen more often,” he said
Mark Scheifele scored for Winnipeg and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 27 shots
Before the game, Ottawa acquired striker Ryan Dzingel of the Carolina Hurricanes for strikers Alex Galchenyuk and Cedric Paquette
