Eliza Dushku adds hers to the many voices supporting Charisma Carpenter after being charged against Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The actress, who starred with Carpenter on the popular WB series, shared an emotional statement on Instagram Thursday in support of her friend with

“CC, my heart aches for you and I’m so sorry you kept this up for so long,” wrote Dushku, 40, “Your post was powerful, painful and painted a picture that we never see or do together will not know “

Dushku said she was unaware of Whedon’s alleged abuse of power against Carpenter, who detailed his behavior in a detailed statement on Twitter on Wednesday, while 56-year-old Whedon has not publicly addressed the allegations

“I often think of the saying: ‘We are as sick as our secrets'”, continued Dushku. “Our secrets actually make and keep us sick. What I am learning more and more – and what I have personally found to be the most valuable – is that profound healing can only be achieved by naming and revealing what actually happened This is the necessary first step (once someone is ready) to free us from our secrets, we have isolated, embarrassed and held hostage “

Dushku said the failure to mention the “power / gender / sexual / racial abuse” which is “epidemic in the entertainment industry” and in society in general only enables and encourages abuse and systems

The actress concluded, “May you and myriad others feel the solidarity and connection you have probably missed for too long. Come out of courage, change and hope It starts and ends because of brave fortune-tellers like you I admire, respect and love you “

In her post on Wednesday, Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1997 to 1999 and its spin-off series Angel through 2004, said Whedon “abused his power several times while he worked on the sets got from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel “

“Although he found his misconduct amusing, it only served to heighten my performance anxiety, disempower me, and alienate me from my colleagues,” she said. “The disturbing incidents created a chronic physical condition that I am always under I still suffer With a beating, heavy heart I say that I have got by isolated and sometimes destructively “

Carpenter, 50, once claimed Whedon asked her if she intended to “keep” her baby after learning she was pregnant – and eventually released her shortly after she was born

“He attacked my character, mocked my religious beliefs, accused me of sabotaging the show, and then unceremoniously fired me as soon as I was born the following season,” she claimed

“At the time, I felt powerless and alone,” she continued. “With no other option, I swallowed the abuse and continued”

Carpenter’s allegations come a year after actor Ray Fisher accused Whedon of “being rude, abusive, unprofessional, and totally unacceptable” while working on the Justice League together in 2017

WarnerMedia opened an internal investigation following Fisher’s allegations, saying when the December 2020 investigation concluded that “remedial action has been taken”

Carpenter participated in the investigation, adding in her statement that she feels “an overwhelming sense of responsibility towards Ray and others to remain private about my experience with Joss and the suffering it caused me”

“It is perfectly evident that Joss has persisted in his harmful acts and continues to wreak havoc in his wake,” she said

Fisher, 33, responded to Carpenter’s testimony on Twitter, calling the actress “one of the bravest people I know”

“I am forever grateful for her courage and for giving her voice to the Justice League investigation,” he said, “Read Her Truth Share Her Truth Protect Her At All Costs”

Since Carpenter got in touch, several other Buffy stars have also looked into the allegations, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Anthony Head
