A man featured in a viral photo lounging at a desk in Spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi’s office suite amid Wednesday’s Capitol mayhem allegedly stole a letter for a Missouri congressman / p>

The man, who was reportedly identified as 60-year-old Richard Barnett, flashed the letter to Republican representative Billy Long to reporters outside the Capitol

In an explosive interview with New York Times reporter Matthew Rosenberg, Arkansas’s Barnett argued that he did not steal the envelope because he left some change on the desk

“I didn’t steal it, I bled on it because she mazed me and I couldn’t see it,” Barnett said, according to a video Rosenberg posted on Twitter

“So I think, well, I’m in her office, I have blood in her office, I’m going to put a quarter on her desk even though she’s not worth it,” he added

In November, Barnett was interviewed by KNWA at a pro-Trump rally where, according to the new outlet, he supported the president’s allegations of election fraud

He was in Pelosi’s office Wednesday when other men were seen wearing Make America Great Again hats and hopping around with desk phones

Another protester was seen grinning as he walked away with Pelosi’s dais as unprecedented scenes of looting and chaos engulfed the Capitol

Protesters overwhelmed police and trapped lawmakers in the Senate and House of Representatives, resulting in a tense armed standoff
