Newbies: After first hitting the showbiz scene 30 years ago as PJ and Duncan in Byker Grove, they decided to step back from their recording deal and get into the TV presentation
Solving the mystery: Ant and Dec weren’t the only stars on the show, however Oddly enough, Cat was the third member of their trio to add to the show’s success
Dec said, ‘We turned down a massive commission, 52 weeks a year for three hours every Saturday’
Ant and Dec weren’t the only stars on the show though, memorably, Cat was the third member of their trio to add to the show’s success
Dec said, ‘We knew we wanted a girl but didn’t know who it would be’
Then Cat added, ‘It was being sold as a music show, I didn’t really want to do a kids show I was told they weren’t going to be puppets or talking to kids it’s going to be a cool music show’
Telling the story of how they chose Cat, Ant revealed, “The night before we went to a restaurant after football, Dec got a little tipsy and fell off his chair. There was a couple on a date that looked over and typed ‘
As little as they knew, someone had told Cat the story, and she used it to her advantage to raise the boys when they first met
Cat told one horrified December, “We’ve met before, my boyfriend was out at a Chinese restaurant and you ruined our dinner and fell off a chair”
Just kidding! Dec admitted that he could feel himself “getting redder and redder” before Cat admitted she was winding him up “

Ant was clearly impressed with her boldness, saying, “If you have the brass neck to tease us in the first 30 seconds after meeting then you’re the girl ‘
Although they found the right presentation, they admitted that their show was far from an instant hit
Ant continued, ‘We got it wrong at first, we all ended up focusing on the music department. It had been going pretty badly long enough for people to ask if we should be on the air’
Dec admitted that he was really worried that this might be the end of their careers and said, “We thought if they pull this I’ll lose my house and have to go back to Newcastle with my parents. I thought that was bad ‘
While Dec said, ‘It was a struggle to get guests we had to forget about the music show a bit and put our efforts into the other parts’

The turning point came when the boys did a pantomime in their first year on the show that taught them to bond with their young audiences
Ant continued, “We realized what made her laugh, it’s toilet humor and slap stick, the way it always was’
While Dec was mentioning, ‘On the BBC they’re a bit cozy and nice with the kids, we wanted to be their mischievous older brothers’
Similarly, the kids swore not to spare the kids and refused to sugar-coat them by losing ‘Challenge Ant’ while Dec yelled at the teens on the phone when they didn’t answer Wonkey Donkey correctly
As the show gained traction, it was trending when people complained about the disappearance of Skoda badges because people were stealing them to recreate the host’s Skoda necklaces
Ant said, ‘But they [Skoda] were so excited about the ad that they gave us a car as a gift’
Naughty Guys: While Dec mentioned, “On the BBC they’re a bit cozy and nice to the kids, we wanted to be their mischievous older brothers”
They admitted that they knew the show was gaining popularity because of the reaction they received when they returned to Newcastle to come home
They also loved their relationship with Cat, adding, “We loved working with her on and off the screen, she was ready for anything and wasn’t afraid of looking stupid ‘
Starry guests came with success, showing a clip of Victoria Beckham who was drawing on two breasts while a sketch was being made on a Plexiglas screen
Guest Appearance: Until then, the show was so big that Mariah Carey was a guest star
Her last show included a Chums, a parody of Friends, a scene in which Dec and Cat got married after years of teasing a romance
She played Cat’s bridesmaid and the hosts showed that she was more than happy to get fully involved
Ant said, ‘Mariah Carey called on the set to find out what color the walls were so that her bridesmaid dress would crash together and it would be funnier’

He said, ‘It was a tough blow to go We worked from conception to the last day. Even now I hate the thought of us leaving
Cat said, ‘We’ve built a relationship on and off the screen It was a sad feeling that I wouldn’t see my friends every week’
