Mick McCarthy’s unbeaten start as Cardiff City manager continued as his 1000 Game in management ended in a goalless draw in Huddersfield Town

Terrier striker Yaya Sanogo seized the best opportunity for an unforgettable game when he missed a penalty in the second half

The ex-Arsenal forward’s miss means the Bluebirds haven’t lost in eleven games since McCarthy took command in January

This point lifts Cardiff to seventh place in the table, while Huddersfield around 18 Place climbs

A first goal in 16 games was a big plus for Huddersfield, although boss Carlos Corberan will think his team should have picked up three rather than one point

Cardiff’s turnaround under McCarthy was spectacular and although they weren’t at their best, they kept their momentum after eleven games without loss

After returning 24 points from McCarthy’s first 10 games, he received a two-year contract extension earlier this week

While Cardiff has been thriving lately, Huddersfield’s form has been miserable, with just one win in 13 games since the turn of the year

Corberan’s team have conceded more goals this season than any championship club bar Wycombe, and they wobbled here within two minutes when Ryan Schofield did well to deny Sean Morrison

Huddersfield took possession of the ball after the early scare, although their only notable performance in the first half was a free kick from Juninho Bacuna, which Dillon Phillips brought to safety

Cardiff was more threatened despite having less ball Will Vaulks’ violent volley forced Schofield to make a sharp save

The visitors cause was not helped by the loss of Joel Bagan to a shoulder injury, especially as the youngster only started after regular left-back Joe Bennett was dismissed for the season earlier this week

Bacuna was lucky enough to escape a card when he responded to a late challenge from Aden Flint by raising a hand to the Cardiff defender’s face Referee Tim Robinson ruled that no action was required against either player

At the start of the second half the chances were slim, although Richard Keogh came to Bacuna’s free kick first, only to blow his head as he stretched to make contact

The big moment of the competition came 16 minutes before the end when Aaron Rowe blocked a first shot before being tripped by Curtis Nelson while collecting the ricochet

But Sanogo, who made his first start in Huddersfield, messed up the following free kick and dragged his efforts a meter

It was Huddersfield’s third penalty after three attempts this season, while, remarkably, Cardiff did not concede any of the four goals conceded in 2020-21

Cardiff showed little success in the second half as they failed to score for the first time under McCarthy

It was Huddersfield who made up for Sanogo’s miss late late, but Pipa saw a shot cleverly saved by Phillips before Fraizer Campbell shot a half volley over the bar when he looked like a favorite for a goal

“A really tough game. We didn’t play very well at it, even though we were really solid

“They had a tough schedule too, but we did it with Wednesday-Saturday and Tuesday-Friday, I think, with our energy levels I think

“We had to scrape it out, but if you can’t win it don’t let yourself be beaten, we’ve got a good point”

Attempt saved Sean Morrison (Cardiff City) tries a right footed shot from the center of the box, saved by the goalkeeper in the center of the box, prepared by Joe Ralls with a head pass

Attempt missed Fraizer Campbell (Huddersfield Town) tries too high with a right footed shot from the center of the box. Assisted by Naby Sarr with a head pass from a corner

Attempt missed Lex Vallejo (Huddersfield Town) right footed shot from outside the box is too high from a corner

Attempt saved Pipa (Huddersfield Town) tried it with a left footed shot from the left inside the box, held by the goalkeeper in the middle of the goal. Assisted by Lewis O’Brien with a through ball

Attempt blocked Tom Sang (Cardiff City) right footed shot from the right side of the box is blocked
