Celtic, led by a single goal for most of the game, but exploded late in life
Celtic met on Wednesday evening at St Mirren avenged when Neil Lennon’s side recorded an all-out 4-0 win at Paisley
The visitors were led early by Tom Rogic, who curled up for a wonderful start after Jamie McGrath left the field injured for the hosts
The Saints had started strong but looked dejected from the loss of their midfield talisman and retreated into themselves, however defending themselves well and watching the game as the final ten minutes approached
But they were then fatally struck when Ryan Flynn tarnished Greg Taylor, giving Edouard a chance to double the lead
Ryan Christie got off the bench and immediately added a third before becoming the creator, firing David Turnbull, who closed an explosive three-minute spell with a cool finish
St Mirren could have added some consolation after Shane Duffy – a replacement for the injured Stephen Welsh – lost focus to give Jonathan Obika the goal
But Scott Bain was up to it and made sure it was a perfect day in the office for the resurgent champions
And that’s a wrap for Celtic who scores five straight wins and takes revenge on Jim Goodwin’s team
Most fans of teams outside of Glasgow’s two big teams will tell you the worst thing about Celtic is that they can turn a one-goal competition into a router in the blink of an eye
It’s something the parkhead side has had in their locker for years and they’ve lived up to their reputation here with a ruthless feat
You might have been in danger of leaving the Saints behind as they neared the last ten minutes, but they really killed it
If you listen carefully you can hear the sigh from the St Listen to Mirren-Bank as the referee mercilessly adds five minutes to this game
He’ll get away with this one thanks to the goal line, but Shane Duffy’s weak defenders let Jonathan Obika run through and force a first real rescue from Scott Bain
We say he’ll get away with it, but Bain doesn’t seem in the mood to let go of him
The funny thing about live blogging is that when the targets fly in like this, you don’t really have a chance to see the game
They are no longer seen after a three minute explosion of the gate and may not even be executed there
When the dust settles, Rogic and Turnbull go out to be replaced by Leigh Griffiths and Moi Elyounoussi
Christie and McGregor combine this time, and the former dumps Turnbull for an easy finish
This time Christie! Things are happening too quickly for me and my humble laptop to keep up now, but it’s a wonderful target for Christie taking a pass from Rogic and swiping it over Alnwick
With that, Edouard goes to Patryk Klimala, who continues his perhaps undesirable record of being Celtic’s most-used submarine this season
Another positive performance by the French striker who shows some signs that he has returned to his best – that’s now six goals in five games
It really doesn’t look good for Welsh, whose momentum may have just been halted by a serious injury
It’s too early to be sure, but the way he’s twisted his ankle suggests that some careful attention is needed
That was a long hour of football for St Mirren, but the brief hiatus after Welsh’s injury appears to have taken the sting off Celtic and the home team have grown back into them
They seem to be feeling a little weakness with Duffy replacing Welsh and are dying to take advantage of it
Stephen Welsh is in pain on the deck after a late challenge from Jonathan Obika
The striker accidentally kicks his ankle and it doesn’t look good for the young defender
He needs a stretcher to go as Shane Duffy prepares to enter the fight
An interesting battle begins on the left flank of St Mirren when Ilkay Durmus tries to get his site to the park on a regular basis
He’s bumped into the opposing number Kenny a few times now and none of the players shy away from a 50/50
Excellent close control from Rogic puts him on the edge of the six-yard box, but it seems that the Australian’s stealth pass was a little too subtle as Edouard sees it late and can’t convert
Turnbull then comes to an end with two long-distance attempts – Celtic turns the screw
He does the selfless work that strikers often don’t do, pulling McCarthy and Fraser out of position with his movement, and his touch looks much safer and more secure when the ball hits him
The collaboration with Edouard is also on the rise – positive signs for Lennon, whose big money striker may finally start clicking
So far it has been a simple but effective strategy by Celtic – Bringing the Body Forward
With Edouard and Ajeti each occupying a central defender, Rogic running after them, McGregor and Turnbull coming from below and even Ajer becoming active, St Mirren not knowing what to do with himself when Celtic is pushing forward
And we’re back! St. Mirren makes us look for a balance
St Mirren started the better of the two teams, but was injured by an injury to Jamie McGrath
He had a bad looking shoulder injury, but when substitute Kyle McAllister came into the fight, Tom Rogic patted Celtic with a nice finish in the far corner
Since then it has been mainly one-way traffic, although the odds for both teams were very high
Connolly quickly finds himself one-on-one with Bain, but Jonjoe Kenny is there to take man, ball, and everything in between as he sends the ball into the stands
This is a vintage performance by Tom Rogic Didn’t make much of the ball, but more than justifies its inclusion if it finds its way to his feet
He almost has one of the best assists of the season, but his through pass to Turnbull is cut out at full stretch by Shaughnessy
This is at least the third time in the first 40 minutes that Kris Ajer is deep in the half of St Mirren is gallant
He made a good rapport with Taylor and Welsh, who both seem happy to hold their positions and let him go
It could be a tactical decision – St Mirren seems really uncomfortable with players running at her
A big Stephen Welsh header on the front post clears Celtic’s lines as St Mirren tries to apply pressure
It has been another strong performance by the young defender so far. Maybe we’ll see his name on the team sheet for a while
Sassy of Scott Brown as he gets a little closer to Ryan Flynn It’s a late night challenge but he only escapes with a warning
This shift in dynamics seems to have done the trick for Celtic, who now look completely responsible
They pull the ball well across the surface, with Edouard in particular trying to take over the game
Saints look very receptive to the kind of straightforward running he loves, so this might be interesting to watch
After such a positive start to the game for the home team, they are now at the door
Is it bad enough to lose the top scorer and key player early to an injury, but then lose 1-0?
The Australian picks up the ball on the right, drives in and rolls it off the far post to give Celtic the lead!
Quite a significant moment in this case when Jamie McGrath goes down after a challenge with Stephen Welsh
The creative midfielder has a sore and it looks like he’s going to have to leave Kyle McAllister is getting ready
