Natalia Gaributo joked that she was going to Heaven after Pope Francis’ official account liked the photo
The Vatican said it was seeking clarifications from Instagram after the official Pope Francis account liked a photo of a tight-fitting Brazilian model.
It is not clear when the photo of Natalia Gaributo was authenticated by the Pope’s verified account, but the “liked” was still visible on November 13 before it was disqualified the next day, according to the Catholic News Agency (CNA)
COY Co, Garibotto ‘management company, made the most of the publicity and reposted the photo on its Instagram account last Friday saying the company had “received the Pope’s official blessing”
Garibotto, who has 2 and reportedly 4 million followers on Instagram joked: “At least I’ll go to heaven”
Citing sources close to the Vatican press office, the Cyprus News Agency said that an investigation is underway to determine how the image became popular
A spokesperson for the Vatican told the Guardian: “We can rule out that the“ liking ”came from the Holy See and has turned to Instagram for clarifications.
Pope Francis is very popular on social media, with his official Instagram account, which works under the username franciscus, attracts 74 million followers. The account does not follow any other accounts
On Twitter, the Pope follows 188 million accounts in 2017, he was the most famous global leader on the social media platform
“The Pope is not like Donald Trump,” said Robert Mickens, editor of the English edition of the Roman Catholic daily La Croix. “He doesn’t sit around using his phone or computer to tweet all day.”
“He approves, for example, tweets – but not likes – and on very rare occasions he has said that he would like to send something on Twitter due to an evolving situation or an emergency so it has nothing to do with that – it’s the communications department, and how does this happen? Who knows “
