Actor Tom Hardy of Peaky Blinders plays the role of gangster Al Capone in a new Netflix biopic about the crime boss of the 1930s

The film was released this week by the streaming giant and features Hardy playing the role of Capone for the last year of his life

Capone died in 1947 after a long battle with dementia caused by syphilis, leaving behind a wife and son

Capone suggests that Al Capone fathered an illegitimate son whom he never recognized as his own

In real life, however, the gangster had only one child in his entire life, Albert Francis “Sonny” Capone Jr – played by Noel Fisher in the Netflix movie

In the years since Capone’s death, there have been several people claiming to be his descendants, but none have been shown to be linked

Albert was born on 4 Born December 1918 at a time when his father is known to have played semi-professional baseball

After the death of his father, Albert continued to live in Florida and worked as a printing apprentice, then as a tire dealer and later as a restaurant owner – according to Screenrant

In 1966 he legally changed his name to Albert Francis Brown to remove ties with Capone

But Sonny never committed any crimes other than stealing $ 3 aspirin and 50 worth of batteries in 1965

The Netflix biopic Capone can start today, Friday, March 26th February, to be viewed on the streaming platform

Hardy is accompanied by a cast that includes Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Endgame), Matt Dillon (Wayward Pines), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), and Jack Lowden (Dunkirk)
