Skyscanner has revealed the top 10 destinations Brits are booking flights to after the roadmap for the UK lockdown was announced

Boris Johnson gave vacationers a glimmer of hope when he announced the government’s plans to get England out of lockdown

Currently, England bans recreational travel for international travel, which means it is illegal to vacation abroad, but international travel policy is due to be reviewed in April under the lockdown roadmap and could not go before the earliest the 17th May be resumed

Unsurprisingly, travel agents saw an increase in bookings for flights and vacations – and Skyscanner was no exception

The flight booking website saw a 55% increase in website traffic immediately after Boris released the roadmap in the House of Commons on Monday Flight bookings by British travelers were up 69% over the previous day

What’s the goal at the top of the list? It was Spain where vacationers were keen to do business with the country on Monday (Jan. February) recorded the highest booking volume

It’s no surprise that Spain has been a firm favorite with British vacationers for decades, thanks to its abundance of resorts, beautiful beaches, and affordable flights and packages

Short haul destinations proved particularly successful, with Greece, Turkey, Italy and Portugal, plus some domestic flights to the UK also making the cut, while there were some long haul destinations in Pakistan, the US, India and Thailand

This is happening despite ongoing travel restrictions and quarantine rules – the US, for example, continues to keep its borders closed to anyone who was in the UK within 14 days of travel You can check out the full list of the top 10 destinations below

It is worth noting that at the time of writing, travel restrictions are still in place and there are a number of factors that determine which destinations could reopen to Brits if they are lifted

Hugh Aitken, vice president of flights at Skyscanner, said: “It was good to see the potential restart to international travel was included in the government’s roadmap announcement yesterday

“Our data shows that travelers are very responsive to restriction updates Similar to the travel corridor announcements last year, we see this latest news leading to an increase in the demand for travel

“However, the importance of clear, straightforward, and timely information remains of paramount importance in restoring the confidence of travelers and the industry, particularly when it comes to quarantines and pre-departure testing

“Ultimately, it will take a combination of factors to unleash pent-up demand, including a stronger global focus on common international standards so that people can plan a well-deserved vacation”
