The coronavirus mass vaccination center at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern opens next week, the NHS said

More than two months after the Hereford Times reported that a site was being prepared at the exhibition site, NHS chiefs in Herefordshire and Worcestershire confirmed that the center would open on Jan. March opens

It will be the second coronavirus mass vaccination center to offer vaccination to Herefordshire patients, the other at Elgar House on Holmer Road in Hereford

The Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group said the opening of the center will be “another major milestone in the growing immunization program”

The location in the three counties is operated by SW Healthcare and plans to open from Tuesday, April 2 March to start vaccinations The company also operates the Artrix Theater and St Peter

Dr Gemma Moore, General Practitioner and Clinical Director of SW Healthcare, said, “This vaccination center will further increase our local capacity to deliver Covid-19 vaccines and build on the success of our general practitioner-led teams and the other centers in delivering these vaccine programs so quickly across the two counties

“They have so far helped us roll out the vaccine in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and we look forward to moving this program forward

“We will invite patients based on the JCVI’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) priority list, which is directed to the most vulnerable patients first. We ask patients not to visit the center if they have not booked an appointment”

“GP-led teams will continue to invite patients to visit local vaccination sites so those patients who cannot get to the larger centers can still wait to be called by their GP”

Ken Nottage, Managing Director of Three Counties Showground said, “Three Counties is proud and honored to host a vaccination center for Herefordshire and Worcestershire

“This is not a commercial endeavor for Three Counties, but an opportunity for us to do our part in support of the National Challenge to Combat Covid-19. We have been extremely impressed with the planning and effort that has gone into establishing this facility This is evidence of the NHS’s determination to run a mass vaccination program

“I would encourage the public to play their part now by getting vaccinated if they are invited”

In the coming weeks, people will continue to be encouraged to accept the vaccination offer according to the eligible cohorts set by the JCVI at national level

The NHS reminded people to wait for their invitation as the center will not be a drop-in service

The site operates in addition to the five GP-run hubs in Ledbury, Leominster, Hereford and Ross-on-Wye
