James Argent has been warned by doctors that he could die if he contracted coronavirus – after his weight climbed to 27 stones in lockdown

Former TOWIE star, 33, said he would have life-saving gastric surgery in the near future as he described the doctors’ warning as “very worrying” when he appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday

The reality TV personality received his first dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine last month after being classified in the “High Risk” category for his weight

He said, ‘They [doctors] basically said, as tall as I am right now, it could be fatal If I caught Covid, I could be a goner’

James spoke to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid and added, “It was worrying. It was difficult to gain so much weight and obviously the fact that I grew this big

‘It’s kind of a show that I haven’t been to in the best of places, but I’m sitting here this morning, I feel super positive

‘I have a life changing surgery that will happen in the near future It’s all booked out

‘I really feel like I’m taking positive steps and I can’t wait to do my best again’

James went on to explain how doctors warned him that he was at risk because of his weight and that it could be fatal if he caught Covid

He also talked about obesity “having a serious impact on my heart” – something that worries him because both of his parents have heart problems

‘I have spoken to the doctors and nurses at Transform Hospital Group regularly and they have given me advice,’ he said

‘They basically said the size I am right now could be deadly If I caught Covid I could be a Goner

‘It’s not just that, my mom and dad, they had heart problems themselves, so it’s kind of in my hereditary family, in my genes and things I have to address now before it’s too late’

James has said he is still undecided what type of gastric surgery he will have, but once he makes up his mind it will be in the “near future”

Hazard area: Arg stated that obesity has significant health implications and that if he contracts the coronavirus, he “could be a goner”

‘At the moment I haven’t decided exactly which one it will be There are options for a sleeve, a bypass I need to do a little more research and speak to a few more people

‘But the surgery will be in the near future I really hope it will work for me, it will change my life’

James revealed that obesity was something he has struggled with since childhood and found it “impossible” to maintain a healthy weight

He said, “I’m not saying I can’t lose weight without this type of surgery, but I’ve never been able to keep it up

‘So I just think that this time I made a decision, talked to all my friends, family, everyone had their opinion and you know, nine out of ten they said it’s not fun anymore, go ahead it That’s why I made the decision

‘It’s not like I gained weight on lockdown and I’m doing something drastic to get rid of it This is something I’ve had about weight and eating disorder since I was a teenager ‘

After his interview, the reality star took to Instagram and told fans that he can’t wait to be happy and healthy again and that he feels “super positive” looking at his surgery

He wrote: ‘A change is coming I can’t wait to be happy again. & Healthy, I feel super positive

‘I’m nervous about the major & operation, but I know it’s the best that & will be life changing!

‘I’m inspired by @ gypsyking101 [Tyson Fury’s] comeback & can’t wait to do my best again’ (Sic)

His inspiration: James said he was motivated by Tyson Fury (picture 2020) and hoped for a stronger comeback than ever before, like the heavyweight boxer

Arg has battled alcohol and drug addiction since he achieved fame on TOWIE in 2014, and was suspended from the show after failing a routine drug test

The TV star spent three months at a facility in Thailand during the 2016 Christmas season trying to curb his addiction and announced that he had checked into a show to get the “ongoing support” he needed

In August 2019, Arg returned to rehab after breaking up with Gemma Collins to fight his demons

James recently confessed that having committed a year of sobriety after overcoming his drug addiction, his weight has made him embarrassed to leave the house and he spends hours alone eating comfortably

He said, ‘I’ve been through a lot. Some people go through life very simply, others find life a little more difficult and stuff.

‘I’ve definitely been through it I believe there’s a light at the end of the tunnel

‘I’m very excited, first and foremost the most important thing for me is my health, and that’s what I’m concentrating on at the moment’

James was also questioned about his ex-Gemma during the interview and confirmed that they were not officially back together

‘We’re not officially back together again, it’s impossible to be in a relationship with anyone considering I can’t meet anyone outside of my home and stuff like that

‘But I suppose she’s no longer blocked on my phone Listen, we’re friends right now and got in touch

‘You know, whatever happens between me and Gemma, we’ve been through a hell of a lot together and will always be close’

In a laparoscopic gastric bypass, a small pouch is created in the stomach that restricts food intake and decreases nutrient absorption

The pouch also prevents food from coming into contact with the upper or lower intestines, further preventing absorption

Surgeons then staple the upper part of the stomach to separate it from the lower part and create a pouch

A small part of the small intestine is then attached to the pouch so that the food can enter the lower stomach

The pod gastrectomy files off part of the stomach and removes the excess – effectively turning it from a pouch into a sleeve

However, due to restrictions on the amount of food patients can eat, patients must continue to take dietary supplements

The results are excellent, achieving a weight loss of up to 70 percent, which is just below the standard set by gastric bypass

In addition to weight loss, sleeve gastrectomy has also been shown to induce remission from diabetes
