Countdown’s Nick Hewer welcomed his successor Anne Robinson with open arms on the Channel 4 show and revealed when he will be stepping down

Former Weakest Link host Anne, was named the new host of the alphabet and number game after Nick’s decision to end the program after 10 years

He was delighted with the latest countdown extension and enthused: “Back to the countdown to retirement in June Big thanks to @colinmurray and great news that Anne Robinson will be in the chair and be back on TV

Nick confirmed his departure from the December countdown in a heartwarming statement on Twitter that revealed he was about to retire

“I’ve decided it is a good time to step down at the end of my contract in the New Year,” he wrote

Steph McGovern confirmed that Anne would replace Nick with Packed Lunch at the countdown on her Channel 4 chat show

Anne will join Rachel Riley and word smith Susie Dent as the sixth host on the program and the first woman to occupy the hot seat
