The frustrated Paul Lambert has jumped in defense of his old Celtic teammate Neil Lennon, claiming some went overboard in their criticism of his tenure as manager

The boss of Ipswich Town was Lennon’s partner in midfield when the Hoops reached the UEFA Cup final around the turn of the century

Lambert learned all about printing from Celtic during his eight years in the East End of Glasgow and knows the insatiable demands of support

The Hoops had a stuttering start to the season, were crushed in Europe by a below-average Sparta Prague and are nine points behind in the race for the title

And that has led some fans to question his future at the club under pressure to secure 10 In A Row

But Lambert points to three remaining games against Rangers’ old opponents as a chance to get the club back to the top of the Scottish football tree

He told the East Anglian Daily Times, “You know what? The Celtic Football Club is a worldwide organization and you are only as good as your last pass

“You could have 100 great passes, and if the last one is a nightmare this is the one you remember

“Lenny won everything in sight. The league is still within reach and they are still in a cup final and others too. You are good at it

“Steven (Gerrard) is doing very well with Rangers but Celtic is on the right track and I don’t think they would give it up lightly”

“They are going to play 10 in a row, which would be historic to them, but the review is exaggerated and incorrect
