The Reading Festival has confirmed its intention to continue the event in August, but a Reading Council has warned that a decision has not yet been made

Festival Republic, organizers of the Reading and Leeds Festival, announced on Wednesday the 24th February, posted an announcement and tweeted, “Reading and Leeds 2021 Following the latest government announcement, we can’t wait to get back to the fields this summer LET’S GO # RandL21 ”

And the director of the festival republic, Melvin Benn, told The Guardian: “We are thrilled, we are excited and we are sure that it will continue”

But Councilor Graeme Hoskin said at the Covid-19 Outbreak Engagement Board meeting in Reading on Friday, Jan. February, “nothing was agreed”

He said: “From the comments on social media and from those in contact with the Council, it appears that some people feel that the Council has approved the reading festival this summer

“That’s not the case. Reading has nothing and no one else has agreed to anything. But the announcement is certainly the intention of the Reading Festival

“This will be an important point for our licensing department and various other national bodies, but the council has not agreed anything”

According to plans announced on Monday, the government hopes to remove any remaining restrictions on social contact no earlier than Jan. June pick up

This would mean bigger events like Reading Festival can take place and nightclubs can finally reopen

Cllr Hoskin is the senior health officer for the Reading Borough Council (RBC) and discussed the festival as part of a discussion on the government’s roadmap outside the lockdown

The event was on Thursday the 25th February, sold out after the festival confirmed the event would continue

In a statement on the festival website, the organizers said, “After the year we’ve had, it would always happen

“We have never lost faith and we are happy to say today that Reading Festival 2021 is now officially SOLD OUT thanks to everyone who managed to buy a ticket”

“It’s going to be an unforgettable summer and we can’t wait to see you back in the fields”

However, the director of the festival republic, Melvin Benn, told the Guardian that the event was not yet insured as it was currently impossible to buy However, he is confident that the government will include “some form of insurance” in next week’s budget
