With an unusual Christmas celebration that means social distance from our loved ones, an extra holiday day this year seems only fair

But why does Christmas 2020 include an additional public holiday? Here’s what you need to know today:

Since Christmas falls on a Friday this year, Boxing Day took place on a Saturday afterwards

It would normally give the British the day off, but since most British would already be spending a weekend away from the office, a spare day was given

The following working day will be Monday the 28th December, considered a public holiday so we can keep the festive cheer going!

New Year’s Day falls on a Friday this year, so from 1 January have another public holiday to enjoy a long weekend of festivities

Since next year’s Christmas falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day falls on a Sunday, the following two working days are public holidays to give us a reasonable break from work

The two free replacement days are Monday the 27th December 2021 to fill in Christmas Day and Tuesday the 28th December 2021, instead of Boxing Day

Years 11 & 13 to be on 4 Return to school January, but others may stay home through February FE
