Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, burped smoke and ash in a new eruption Tuesday, but Italian authorities said it posed no threat to surrounding villages

“We have seen worse,” Stefano Branco, head of the INGV National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in the nearby city of Catania, told the Italian news agency AGI

When Branco estimated that the eruption from the southeastern crater of Mount Etna began late Tuesday afternoon, he insisted that the recent surge in activity was “not at all worrying”

The emergency authorities said on their Twitter account that they were closely monitoring the situation in the three villages at the foot of the volcano – Linguaglossa, Fornazzo and Milo

The images showed a spectacular pink ash cloud over the snow-capped peak, but the cloud had largely dissolved by dusk while the lava flows continued to glow

With 3At 324 meters, Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe and is in the last 500000 years ago erupted frequently
