WASHINGTON – Coca-Cola raised some eyebrows this week to promote an online training seminar calling on employees to be “less white” to fight racial discrimination
The training seminar slides shared online this week had tips on how to decrease whiteness
Tips for “being less white” included: “being less arrogant, being less sure, being less defensive, being more humble, listening, believing, breaking with apathy” and “breaking with white solidarity” “
Another slide tells viewers to understand what it means to be white in order to fight racism and to challenge what it means to be racist “

White people in the US and other western countries are “socialized to feel naturally superior because they are white,” states another slide
It continued, “Research shows that children ages 3 to 4 understand that it is better to be white”
The seminar was predictably divisive, with some praising the company and others threatening to boycott it
Harmeet Dhillon, lawyer and center for American Freedom founder, who shared the slides on her Twitter, said the slides appeared “like blatant racial discrimination” “
In a letter to Fox Business, the soft drink giant said the slides associated with a Coca-Cola training program “are not part of the company’s curriculum”
“Our global Better Better Training is part of a learning plan for building an inclusive workplace. It consists of several short vignettes, each a few minutes long,” said the company
It was noted that the training is publicly available on LinkedIn and covers a “wide variety of topics, including diversity, equity, and inclusion
“We will continue to listen to our employees and refine our learning programs accordingly,” said the company
