(CNN) – President-elect Joe Biden’s inaugural committee announced Sunday that there would be a virtual parade following the swearing-in ceremony on inauguration day as part of an effort to keep the crowd in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic to keep a minimum

The televised virtual parade will feature appearances in communities across the country, the committee said in a press release, similar to the virtual program at the Democratic National Convention that was forced to go online during the summer to keep the virus going from the spread

“The parade will celebrate America’s heroes, highlight Americans from all walks of life in different states and regions, and reflect on the diversity, heritage and resilience of the country as we begin a new American era,” the opening committee said in the publication The committee said it would announce participants in the coming weeks
