Two former Lincoln Project interns submitted garish text messages allegedly received from co-founder John Weaver

Weaver reportedly persecuted Alex Johnson, a senior at the University of Texas at Austin, and Charlie Stephens, who attends Louisiana State University, last year as he recruited them as interns for his anti-Trump super PAC

“I want to put you in touch with some of our people,” Weaver wrote to Johnson in April, the student told New York Magazine

Fifteen minutes later, Weaver allegedly added, “On your way, remember to worship a capital c-k and have you worshiped, and you’ll be braced until you beg!”

“We talked about the Lincoln Project and maybe got involved, and of course I think that’s great. I wonder,” Oh yeah, that would be great! “Johnson said.” Then he asked me, “When did you get that waxed last time? “

After Johnson completed his internship at Lincoln Project, Weaver went on with the creepy messages: “Are you up, down, backwards?” he asked

“His messages never stopped and I would play along just to be nice,” Johnson explained, “Because I knew, I mean, he matters Like he has the strings And we work in the same political culture as” Never Trumpers “’”

Weaver also reportedly started dating Stephens, then 19, in June when he called him on Twitter to ask if he or a “colleague” would be interested in an internship “to get Trump out of the way vacate and oppose Senate Republican incumbents ”

When Stephens replied a week later that he had officially applied, Weaver allegedly wrote back, “You’re a damn stallion!”

Stephens replied that this was “quite a compliment”, to which Weaver replied, “Take it! Hell, you can be very good;)”

On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that the leaders of the Lincoln Project had been notified in writing and by phone of at least 10 specific allegations of harassment against Weaver as early as June

The reveal challenges the organization’s testimony last month that it was “shocked” when the allegations against Weaver were made public

The Lincoln Project – known for raising millions to fund the “Never Trump” movement – announced plans late Thursday to conduct an external investigation into Weaver’s tenure

“The Lincoln Project believes that the members of our movement and the victims of John Weaver’s despicable and misleading behavior are due to the facts, and you will,” the organization said in a statement. “John Weaver betrayed us all , and you deserve the facts presented independently in a transparent process ”

Co-founder Steve Schmidt also redoubled the group’s claim that it was never aware of internal allegations against Weaver

Weaver, who is married with two children, resigned last month and apologized for his actions after his alleged wrongdoing came to light

“For the men I made uncomfortable through my messages, which I then regarded as friendly mutual conversations: I’m really sorry,” he wrote. “They were inappropriate and it was because of my mistakes that this discomfort was brought upon you ”
