The busy Philipps shares a touching conversation she had with her 12-year-old child Birdie over the holidays. The 41-year-old actress shared the deeply personal story in the latest episode of her podcast, Busy Philipps Does her best “and noted that her oldest child is not gay and she / she prefers pronouns

“So birdie, my child, prefers them,” said Philipps. “I fuck up sometimes, but I also try my best”

Philipps announced that her family recently watched the new Pixar movie Soul Then she found Birdie in her room, lying on the floor in the dark and repeatedly listening to Harry Styles’ “Fine Line”

“I had a real flash of mine as a teenager / teenager so I also lay down on the floor and said, ‘Are you okay? Do you want to talk about anything?'” Philipps said, “And Birdie said, ‘It is just like i feel like I’m alive but i’m not really alive? you know? and i just want the living part to start “and i got very emotional because i said” first of all, welcome to be my daughter but i want to tell you this because i wish someone had told me that this is alive you can’t wait for it to start ‘”

Philipps went on to tell Birdie that they shouldn’t constantly spend their lives waiting for certain milestones or achievements to come. The conversation got Philipps to reflect on the unusual 2020 and how it affected them

“I’ve always lived my life waiting for the future This year I realized that I wasted so much time fantasizing about a life of so many things that I thought would make me feel different, so I had to face this and figure out how to sit still in it should, “she shared with

Philipps also told Birdie that they don’t have to base their success on someone else’s model

“I said to [you], ‘The other thing I want to tell you that I wish I knew was that you can make your life the way you want it, and it doesn’t have to look like like everything you’ve ever seen or ever modeled for you because it might not exist, “said Philipps.” You can choose what fulfills and makes you happy. It doesn’t have to be one of those constructs that we all live with long fed This is another world to build to be a king ‘”

Philipps described the conversation as “quite intense” and embraced the fact that she struggled with using Birdie’s preferred pronouns in public

“I said you know Bird, I did a bad job with the pronouns because Birdie said they want their pronouns to be them and I didn’t because I was that public person and I want Birdie to be in control of her own narrative and not have to answer anyone outside of our friends and family if they don’t want to, “explained Philipps.” And then Bird said, ‘I don’t give f ** k you can talk about it That I’m gay and out You can talk about my pronouns That would be cool on me That’s great “
