In a season of dominant performances for Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers’ center, none was more dominant than the ad he put on Friday night against the Chicago Bulls

Embiid ended his career with 50 points and 17 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 4 blocks and only 2 turnovers in 35 minutes Philadelphia held back in Chicago to take a 112-105 win, making it 20-10 on the season

“We had to make it,” Embiid said afterwards to Cassidy Hubbarth from ESPN “If I am who I think I am, I have to do the job. That’s my job, that’s why they pay me”

Embiid was extremely dominant throughout and ended his night with an absurd jump back in the corner to bring it to 109-103 with 41.8 seconds to go

After the play, Embiid turned to the empty stands at the Wells Fargo Center and raised his hands to the ceiling – although instead of the usual thunderous waves of applause he would get from the Partisan Philadelphia fans, he could only imagine how that might sound

He later shared a pair of free throws with 29 2 seconds left to officially upgrade his career and break his previous 49 point mark

“I mean we did it as a team,” Embiid said when asked what led to his career night. “It wasn’t a one-man effort. We all won together. My teammates found me, me found her, we shared the ball and we actually played better D than the last couple of games which made me happy. It starts with defense and I’m pretty happy with what we did at that end “

Despite Embiid’s dominance, the Sixers were still struggling to drive off the Bulls (12-16) who got 30 points from Zach LaVine – albeit in the 9v28 shootout – and had six players in double digits Philadelphia, who plays without Star Guard Ben Simmons (illness), received a total of 85 points from Embiid, Tobias Harris (22) and Danny Green (13)

The win ensured Rivers was in charge of Kevin Durant’s team in next month’s All-Star game, as Philadelphia had the best record in the Eastern Conference by the end of this weekend’s games

“I’m trying not to run into problems,” said Rivers with a laugh, “I’m looking forward to our team”
