Just a week before his murder on February 14, 1965, his home in Queens, New York was set on fire. No one was injured, but the home burned down

He found out from the FBI that he was about to be murdered3 p.m. started giving a speech on Feb. On 21, 1965, gunfire broke out in the Audubon Ballroom in New York City. Malcolm X was shot 15 times and died on stage

“His attorney claimed the slim goatee Malcolm knew he was tagged for murder and prepared in his speech to reveal the names of those who tried to kill him”

Police made a feud between Malcolm, 38, and the black Muslim movement he broke with in 1963, responsible for the murder. However, Muslims denied any complicity, ”the Associated Press reported on February 22, 1965

Between 400 and 500 people were in the audience when several men shot Malcolm X. The bullets ripped through a thin wooden pedestal on which he was standing. He was shot 15 times

Civil rights activist Malcolm X, whose original name was Malcolm Little, joined the controversial Nation of Islam in prison. He had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for theft and burglary

He rose to a leadership position within National Islam and encouraged blacks to fight racism “by all means” including violence

Muhammad killed Malcolm X after the assassination of President John F. suspended from the organization Kennedy Malcolm X said Kennedy’s murder was a matter of “chickens coming home to settle.”””

In 1964, Malcolm X changed his philosophy and founded the Post-Story Afro-American Unity Organization, Malcolm X and “his more moderate philosophy became increasingly influential in the civil rights movement”

“A distraction in the back of the ballroom drew attention away from the stage long enough for the assassins to run down a corridor and pump three guns into Malcolm’s chest. He had just started addressing his supporters and began: “Brothers and sisters “

The killers turned and ran out of the ballroom on the second floor A mob called on their heels: “Kill them – don’t let them get away”’ “

The police quickly arrested three black men who also had gunshot wounds. They were hospitalized under guard

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jimmy Breslin, who wrote for the Herald Tribune News Service, wrote the following about the assassination:

“On stage outside the ballroom, someone said, ‘Malcolm is a man who would give his life for you’

Then the 400 people, the best crowd Malcolm X has drawn in three years, got up from their wooden folding chairs and clapped for 45 seconds while Malcolm X stepped on the dais and stood there waiting to speak / p>

The dais came up to Malcolm’s chest but it was made of thin wood and the balls would easily pass through. The applause stopped and people sat down and everyone looked at Malcolm X and now the boys in the back of the ballroom were walking

“Stay cool,” Malcolm X said from the front of the stage. His bodyguards ran over to end the fight

Now the other three went for him One had a sawed-off shotgun Two others came straight down the aisle grabbing the guns in their pockets and someone started yelling and then they had Malcolm X in a hurry

They fired about 10 rounds, the three, and the bullets went through the thin wood of the dais, and Malcolm got at least three in his body, then one of them aimed at his head and hit his cheek

Everyone in the room, that great crowd of 400 people he had attracted, screamed and fell to the floor, and Malcolm X stood on the dais with four bullets, stood frozen, and then fell over and followed his head to the floor fell on the stage and began to die ”

Breslin described how a stretcher was brought across the street from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital Malcolm X’s followers did not wait for an ambulance, they put Malcolm on and surrounded it and carried the stretcher down the stairs and then put it on top Sidewalk and they rolled down Broadway, shouting their threats in a street that was now full of people

They wheeled Malcolm to the emergency exit of the hospital on Broadway, and interns dressed in white came from all over the place Some of them grabbed the stretcher and pushed it onto an elevator, others bent over the body and started inspecting it. They left and there were more of them waiting in the emergency operating room on the third floor

The white hands, about which Malcolm X had preached so much hatred, clutched his blood-soaked clothes and touched his body. One of the white hands put an ether mask over his face. Another hand, holding a scalpel, came to his chest Other white hands worked the chest opening, massaging Malcolm X’s heart

The operating room was full of doctors and nurses, and everyone was busy and working fast, but it all meant less. The bullets had done the job on Malcolm X ”

Members of the Nation of Islam Thomas 15X Johnson, Norman 3X Butler, and Talmadge Hayer were convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison in March 1966
