The Minnesota Timberwolves had the top pick in this year’s draft after winning the lottery, but of all the teams with top picks, they appeared to be the worst-suited for the spot

Among the top three draft consensus drafts of the consensus, they decided that only one really made sense to them. They didn’t want to design a LaMelo ball because D’Angelo Russell is playing the same position, and they didn’t want an overlap of positions. The Timberwolves didn’t want James Wiseman out draw for the same reason, and Wiseman didn’t want to go to Minnesota and play the same position as Karl-Anthony Towns anyway

That made Anthony Edwards the only logical option for the trio, save for a trade that would be a risky proposition for any team not trying to get spotted in their position (Sie, Philadelphia 76ers, and Markelle Fultz)

The Timberwolves may have designed Edwards, but there were concerns he had some red flags in the University of Georgia college for his love of the game, his shot selection was notoriously poor, and you never knew whether you would go from game to game Anthony Edwards’ best performance would be

Of course, college performance doesn’t always translate to the NBA that goes both ways, mind you.Generally, a college standout will hit the NBA only to be totally outdone, at least for their early days. The players are taller, trained stronger, faster, smarter, and better than even the best they faced in college, and the learning curve is gigantic

While Edwards will certainly have some catching up to do on the learning side, he has the physical condition under control and already has a top NBA size. At just 19 years old, he’s 6’5 ” and 225 lbs and a force of nature in the making

Some of these early concerns have already been addressed by Edwards’ game He’s got off to a roaring start with an average of 165 points per game shooting splits of 542/375/1000 and only flipped the ball once with an above average stake of 236 percent

Edwards may have been sacked in Georgia and the scouting reports were spot on. Perhaps that had something to do with his attitude towards basketball, or perhaps he was unable to play for a mediocre squad with players other than theirs The name he would hardly remember a few years later

For those concerned about Anthony Edwards’ translation to the NBA, those worries were certainly not unfounded, but in his first two games, it looks like he will adapt wonderfully to the NBA game he can too Stretching his wings in a low pressure environment on a team that must be overwhelmed to make noise in the playoff picture, and he gets the best of both worlds by also learning from a legitimate superstar in Karl-Anthony Cities >

It’s okay to be dubious about Edwards, but he’s on the right track with the Minnesota Timberwolves
