LOS ANGELES — Dario Šarić scored 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, Mikal Bridges added 19 and the Phoenix Suns overcame Devin Booker’s ejection for a 114-104 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night

Booker scored 17 points before being knocked out at 7:10 in the third quarter, but the Suns (23-11) still took command, reaching their 15th in 18 games Victory Phoenix also overtook the defending NBA champions (24-12) to finish second in the Western Conference by taking a percentage win after an undefeated three-game road trip

“You gain confidence when a guy like Book doesn’t play or is thrown, and you can get a game on the streets at the end of a trip,” said Phoenix trainer Monty Williams. “That’s a recipe for shipping But this was a big character gain We got better I think we played well tonight but we probably have more confidence that we can get a game out without Devin or Chris (Paul) saving the day ”

Booker was called for two technical fouls in remarkably quick succession, resulting in the All-Star’s second ejection in just over five weeks

“We weren’t nervous,” said Bridges of Booker’s sudden departure. “We knew we had to go out there and do what we did. We had to lock ourselves in for the rest of the game and do it for our teammates, our best player go out and we just kept the course and fought to the end I think it was a great road trip ”

LeBron James scored 38 points for Los Angeles, who lost five out of seven with increasing injury problems Dennis Schröder added 17 points, but the Lakers couldn’t keep up without regulars Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma and Marc Gasol

Kuzma was a late scratch with an injured right heel while Gasol missed his first game under the NBA health and safety protocols The Lakers fell to 3-6 as Davis was injured in a loss to Denver on Valentine’s Day

“We’re playing the last two games so well that we get back on a rhythm and find out today that two of our big guns were out,” said James. “It’s definitely drained, especially if you played badly and then in come a good rhythm ”

Shortly before Booker’s expulsion, James and Lakers trainer Frank Vogel received technical information at the same time to defend themselves against Paul

“I am satisfied with our competition,” said Vogel. “Our boys go to great lengths and there is a lot of excitement and great struggle. You understand that there is a big picture here, and the boys keep the big attitude”

Suns: You’ve played five games at the Staples Center against the Lakers since November 2017. Booker replaced Davis in the NBA’s all-star selections last week. Šarić was in question with a sprained right ankle before the game

Lakers: Talen Horton-Tucker had 16 points, one of his career highlights Alex Caruso had seven points and six rebounds before leaving late with neck cramps. Damian Jones played just seven minutes against his former team

James, who led the NBA in assists last season, scored repeatedly in the suit against Phoenix while taking on an unusual off-ball role in many possessions, his highest-scoring performance since Jan 25 still wasn’t enough for the Lakers, who are struggling to offend Davis, who is sidelined with a calf injury

James got no help from two fighting swingers: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had four points in 31 minutes and Wesley Matthews went scoreless in 23 minutes
