“Allen v Farrow,” the highly anticipated new documentaries from directors Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, are a four-hour investigation into allegations of childhood sexual abuse made by Dylan Farrow, actress Mia Farrow’s adoptive daughter and filmmaker Woody Allen, first raised against her father in 1992 when she was 7 years old

But the series, which premieres on HBO on Sunday, is also a compelling glimpse into one of the most iconic relationships – and the wildest breakups – in Hollywood history. After 12 years together, the Oscar-winning writer / director and his got together romantic partner / professional in 1992 in a public war over custody of their three children that included not only Dylan’s allegations but the disclosure of Allen’s sexual relationship with Soon-Yi Previn, Farrow’s adopted daughter from a previous marriage, and the disclosure of hers 13th joint film “Husbands and Wives”

For years, watchers have wondered what would seal the fate of the shamed filmmaker. The four-part documentaries by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering could be

1977: Farrow and her second husband, the composer André Previn, adopt the then 7-year-old Soon-Yi from South Korea Farrow already had three biological sons (Matthew, Sascha and Fletcher) and two adoptive daughters (Lark and Daisy)

1979: Allen and Farrow meet for the first time Farrow, divorced from Previn, and Allen, not far from winning multiple Academy Awards for “Annie Hall”, are at Elaine’s Manhattan restaurant after a performance of Bernard Slade’s play “Romantic Comedy” presented, in which Farrow then played the lead role with Anthony Perkins

16 July 1982: “A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy” is released on US Cinemas It is the first of Allen and Farrow’s 13 films together, including “Broadway Danny Rose,” “The Purple Rose of Cairo,” “Hannah and Her Sisters,” “Crime and Misdemeanors” and “Husbands and Wives” ”

1980: Farrow adopts Moses Farrow (2) from South Korea He is her seventh child and the first to be adopted by Previn after her divorce

Dec Sep. 19, 1987: Farrow gives birth to son Ronan Farrow, then known as Satchel Allen believed to be the father Allen said in a statement at the time, “Mia is fine, baby is fine. The only problem is that he looks like Edward G Robinson “(There has been speculation over the years that Ronan was conceived by Frank Sinatra, Mia’s first husband) Farrow and Allen weren’t married

December 1991: Allen adopts Dylan and Moses. According to later court testimonies, Allen began a sexual relationship with 21-year-old Soon-Yi around this time

Jan Sep 13, 1992: Farrow learns of the relationship when she discovers nudes of Soon-Yi in Allen’s apartment. In “Allen v Farrow,” she describes the photos as “Hustler” graphics as opposed to “Playboy” graphics

4 August 1992: Dylan claims Allen sexually abused her that day when she was 7 years old. Farrow begins filming Dylan and discusses the abuse on the family camcorder

18 August 1992: Allen issues a public statement at New York’s Plaza Hotel calling allegations of child molestation “false and outrageous.” In the statement, Allen claims Farrow trained Dylan to bring allegations into the couple’s custody battle Frequent citation of such “parental alienation” as a defense against allegations of child abuse in custody proceedings is used by the experts on child welfare and justice in “Allen v Farrow”

25 August 1992: As part of a media war with Farrow described in the documentaries, Allen participates in an extensive interview with the Los Angeles Times The paper compares the sharp separation to “the bitter divorce of real estate developer Donald Trump and his wife Ivana” I think that is worse, “says Allen of the comparison

Sept. 18, 1992: Husbands and Wives, Allen and Farrow’s last film together, is released in U. Theater The film stars Allen and Farrow as Gabe and Judy, a couple whose marriage is breaking up when Gabe, a writing professor, begins flirting with one of his students, played by Juliette Lewis Allen told The Times in a profile that briefly after filming was finished it was released: “It was very close to what I wanted to do”

Sept. Sep. 21, 1992: The Allen and Farrow frenzy leads to overcrowded homes for the opening weekend of “Husbands and Wives,” reports The Times “The biggest response” to multiple screenings in the Los Angeles area, however, came at the beginning of the film when Allens Director’s recognition received equal parts applause and hiss, “writes reporter Ryan Murphy

7 June 1993: Mia Farrow wins custody of Ronan, Dylan and Moses Allen denied visiting Dylan In his decision, Elliott Wilk, Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, describes Allen as “selfish, untrustworthy and insensitive” and has ” no parenting skills demonstrated that would qualify him as an appropriate carer “of the three children. In contrast, Wilk Farrow called” a caring and loving mother who provides a home for both her birth and adopted children “

Feb. 1, 2014: Dylan writes an open letter about Allen’s alleged abuse that Times columnist Nicholas Kristof posts on his blog, “What’s Your Favorite Woody Allen Movie?” The letter begins, “Before you answer, you should know that when I was seven, Woody Allen took my hand and led me into a dark, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lie on my stomach lay down and play with my brother’s electric train Then he sexually assaulted me ”

Feb. 5, 2014: In an interview with People magazine shortly after Dylan’s letter, Moses Allen defended Moses also alleges that his mother physically abused him as a child and reiterated Allen’s allegation during the custody battle that Dylan’s allegations of Mia were “a vengeful way of getting him.” for falling in love with Soon-Yi “were trained”
